MISSISSIPPI COTTEN - VOLUME 1
Dear family and friends of mine,
I was feeling a bit nostalgic this morning and it got me thinking about the past handful of years. I thought about all the amazing people in my life now and I thought about those that I miss dearly. I thought about all the experiences that I've shared with them. I am so very grateful. Thank you all.
These past five years in New York have been wonderfully inspiring and I've been writing more and more songs with each passing day. I'd like to start sharing them with the people who have and continue to inspire me the most.
MISSISSIPPI COTTEN - Volume 1
1. Brokenland
2. Waitin' Around to Die
3. 1929 Dream
These three songs stem from (more or less, mostly less): homesickness, soul searching, hope for the future, and the realization of true love.
I recorded them the afternoon of Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Brooklyn Guitar School. I used the new recorder that my lovely wife, M, gave to me a few days before. The record is just that, a record of these songs in this moment. You might hear them in some other form in the future but now they're nothing fancy, just my guitar (Stella), my harmonicas, and me in front of a few microphones. I've titled this recording "MISSISSIPPI COTTEN" in honor of three musicians that I've enjoyed over the past few years (Mississippi Fred Mcdowell, Mississippi John Hurt , and Elizabeth Cotten). I hope that you enjoy them and I look forward to sharing more with you in the future.
If you're in the NY area, I'll be playing an acoustic set at Pete's Candy Store this Saturday night. The music starts in the afternoon and goes all night. I'll be on around 9pm.
